Marcus Cicero (106 - 43 B.C.), was an orator, statesman, political theorist, and philosopher of Ancient Rome. He stated that Magnificence – "greatness of spirit" – is: ‘the thinking about and executing of great and lofty things with a certain large and splendid determination of spirit’. Magnificence, then, is a ‘part’ of Courage. He defines the parts of Courage - Fortitudo in Latin, as:
